Rory Stewart MP is a Conservative MP for Lothian and the Borders. Previously, he served as an officer in the British Army and graduated from Balliol College, Oxford, before joining the British Diplomatic Service and serving in the British Embassy in Indonesia and Montenegro. Between 2000 and 2002, he walked a distance of 6000 miles across Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, India and Nepal and wrote his first book – The Places in Between – about his journey. His second book – The Prince of the Marshes and Other Occupational Hazards of a Year in Iraq – outlined his experiences as Deputy Governor of two provinces in Southern Iraq. Mr. Stewart has written for several publications including the New York Times and has won a number of international awards for his writing. He was elected as a Member of Parliament in May 2010.
