David Coltart, MDC Senator, is a Zimbabwean human rights lawyer and politician. He obtained his BA in Law and subsequently also his LLB from the University of Cape Town in the early 1980s. He was first elected to the Zimbabwean Parliament for Bulawayo South in 2000. In 2008 he was elected as a Senator to represent the Khumalo Senatorial constituency in Bulawayo. Senator Coltart was sworn in as Minister of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture in February 2009. In 2016, he published his political memoir The Struggle Continues: 50 Years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe covering an era of great turbulence from the perspective of a person who has been at the centre of the great Zimbabwean drama for over 30 years.
