Andrei Gomez-Suarez is a Colombian writer, international relations scholar, and peace practitioner. His latest book, We Are Not Made of Sugar, is a tale of growing up in the eighties and nineties during Colombia’s civil war. The author’s parents are university lecturers and political activists working for equality and peace in Pasto, a city in the southern province of Nariño bordering Ecuador, which today is one of the most violent regions in a country divided by six decades of war.

Andrei is also the Director of the Rodeemos el Diálogo (ReD) Foundation, teacher at Alberto Merani Institute (Bogotá), and member of the Exile and Reconciliation Commission (CER). He currently lives in Bogotá. Andrei is the author of Genocide Geopolitics and Transnational Networks (Routledge, 2015) and El Triunfo del No (Icono, 2016). His research on the UP genocide and the Santos-FARC peace talks has been published in the Journal of Genocide Research, Third World Quarterly, International Community Law Review, Revista de Estudios sobre Genocidio, Estudios Políticos, and in various edited books. His research interests are: geopolitics, conflict resolution, education, and transitional justice. He calls this research agenda: Peace Process Pedagogy (forthcoming article in Comparative Education). Andrei has taught on Colombian Politics, International Security, International Relations, Peace Processes and Post-Conflict Reconstruction, and Transitional Justice at the University of Sussex, and the University of Los Andes, the University of Cauca and Externado University in Colombia. Andrei studied International Relations (DPhil) and Contemporary War and Peace Studies (MA) at the University of Sussex and Conflict Resolution (GD) and Political Science (BS) at the University of Los Andes.
