Manny Ansar was born near Timbuktu in Mali. Having graduated with a Masters Degree in International Public Law, he has worked exclusively in humanitarian projects before turning to music. He was the manager of Tuareg Music group, Tinariwen and he co-founded the Festival in the Desert. His attempts to promote Malian music earned him an award for the fight for freedom of expression by artists in the crisis in Mali.
