Sheila Mullen was born in Glasgow in 1942 and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1960-64. After recovering from MS, she and her family moved to Dumfriesshire where for the last 40 years, Ms Mullen has devoted her life to representing, in large lyrical oils, the magical landscape of the Kinnel Valley near her remote Annandale farmhouse studio, depicting the area’s rich folklore and poetic traditions. As with her predecessor Joan Eardley, Ms Mullen paints outdoors in all weather whilst her thickly impasto oils convey her intimate relationship with her locality. She has permanent collections in Leeds Art Gallery and the Duke of Buccleuch among others.
